Located at the Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut. Now we know how bells sound at sea.
I am penning letters by hand at my perfectly sized to me desk as the windows are vigorously rain-scrubbed and the gumbo-limbo is lashing its branches wetly against the sodden sky just beyond. A lone bird, golden as the elusive sun today (so rare! is it an escaped canary?) perches on the tip of the most wildly swinging branch and throws his heart skyward on the song found nestled deep in his hollow bones.
Lightness and joy.
I was playing around with the camera, thinking about PHFR while composing my shot. I brought over my crazy orchid that has two totally different blossoms on one stem – pretty. I brought over my martini with the new olives I adore in it – smoked olives in Chardonnay, yum! – real. I caught a nice sun flare in the pictures – happy. And then my silly little pooch had to come investigating and inserted herself right into the photo trying to sneak a sip of my martini! Ms Funny Pants. 🙂
This weekend was warm.
Cut offs warm – sitting bayside in the sun, feet propped high chatting with my sisters while a dozen sailboats float like dandelion fluff on the water. Two little Key West Doves cooing under my feet on the rocky shore. 7 kayaks paddling fiercely against the tide not even a stone’s throw offshore. Coming home for the first game, digging around looking for my circular 8s, pulling out straight 9s instead. Working a swatch with doors and windows wide open. Sun dappling through the gumbo-limbo while itty-bitty Palm Warblers flit between the hibiscus and the banana tree flipping their tails coquettishly at me when I step into the Florida Room. Chilled white wine for me, spiced Golden Monkey for Hal (like kissing &*%# potpourri). I now have 5 strong and sensual, golden and sparkling ales to savor.
My swatch is 1/2″ too big. Where are my circular 8s??? Does anybody remember what I was last knitting on them?
Can we start this year over?
If this first week is setting the mode for the remainder of the year I really, really want to know if we get a do-over. Please?
So far this year I have:
Had my first cold in decades.
Blown 3 bulbs: 1 closet, 1 over the stove, 1 oven light (expensive! ouch!)
My car refuses to acknowledge that I am sitting in it. No airbags, warning light flashing, as we cruise down the isthmus at 35mph waving at the SPs.
I decided to fuel the old car up since she was hating at me. Sweeten her up a bit, you know? $5.06 later I blew power to Key West. Yes people, it was me this afternoon. I am the one who took care of your peaceful existence. You can buy me a drink the next time you see me. I’ll accept. Seasonal brews are a preference at this time…
Oh… I forgot to mention the fire I started on the electric stove. I’ve always said I cook better on fire, but really!!!
December in Key West =
Open windows, even when the screens fall out
Candy canes & a splash of peppermint liquor jazzing up the morning cuppa joe
Quite a different crowd of shoppers to battle in the stores, this year lots of Europeans and Asians apparently. Kamsahamnida!
One awesome present found and not mailed yet. Many more to go.
Too tired to even pick up the real camera when the phone has one.
Not happy with resulting photos generally, anyone know of a great tutorial for camera phone photos?
Waiting for Instagram for Android. Will it be fun or boring?
