Thought immediately of Scuffy the Tugboat.
This weekend was warm.
Cut offs warm – sitting bayside in the sun, feet propped high chatting with my sisters while a dozen sailboats float like dandelion fluff on the water. Two little Key West Doves cooing under my feet on the rocky shore. 7 kayaks paddling fiercely against the tide not even a stone’s throw offshore. Coming home for the first game, digging around looking for my circular 8s, pulling out straight 9s instead. Working a swatch with doors and windows wide open. Sun dappling through the gumbo-limbo while itty-bitty Palm Warblers flit between the hibiscus and the banana tree flipping their tails coquettishly at me when I step into the Florida Room. Chilled white wine for me, spiced Golden Monkey for Hal (like kissing &*%# potpourri). I now have 5 strong and sensual, golden and sparkling ales to savor.
My swatch is 1/2″ too big. Where are my circular 8s??? Does anybody remember what I was last knitting on them?
How will I ever leave?
I could live here. Sand, waves, seashells. The things we do not have in the Keys.
This water is colder than ours. Though not cold enough to keep me out of it!
Yesterday I rode a rip current far down the beach and wandered back plucking only pink and yellow shells from the sand.
If you let the sand run from your fingers into the sunshine, it glitters.
I’m blues-ing hard at the thought of leaving…
So I’ve stepped away from this site for longer than I like. Would you like to know why? Good. Because I still feel like venting about it. The last post that I put up – Land Crabs – had a quick snap of a huge coconut sized crab that had been in our parking lot. I just quickly took its photo with my phone and posted it. Boom. Terrific post on a busy day. I was feeling super as we headed off to a Military Appreciation Dinner with some friends. Halfway thru the dinner we all got notice (thank you, smartphones!) that a friend had tossed up a post of his own, oh wait. Make that a post of MY OWN. After 5+ years of blogging this is the first time that someone has taken something of mine and claimed it as theirs that I know of. Look to the left. See that Copyright statement? What was the use of taking that Copyright class in college? It makes me want to do that disable right click thing on the website or watermark every single photo hugely right smack in the middle. Which has always annoyed me on others sites but which I now understand.
Though he does have a terrific sense of humor. This is take 2 on his site after he started playing in photoshop. First was just a straight upload from mine to his. We’ve since explained the fine art of the Hat Tip to him.
In other news, we attended the first ever Murder Mystery Dinner Party! I was LaDonna, the Queen of Pop and Hal went as Willy Idol in our best Back to the 80’s duds. It was fun and when I’m having fun, I’m happy.
One of the prettiest weddings I’ve attended in a very long time. Jana is a gorgeous bride and James is a most dapper groom. We wish you a lifetime of happiness!
No paddle boarding, the tide was so low whenever we were beachside, but there was pooltime, a fabulous Palm Sunday service in which the Children’s Choir sang a duet with the Adult Choir that was spine tingling and…
an airshow! The Cenntenial of Naval Aviation Airshow came to Key West on Saturday. A few of the highlights according to my JP-5 sniffing fans:
* A F4U Corsair, my favorite tidbit – Charles Lindbergh flew these for the Marines as a civilian adviser in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
*I would call this a pretty plane, but I think it is a Stearman, named Standard of California for some reason, that for the life of me, I cannot remember.
* Finally, hooray for the home team! These F-5N Tigers are flown by our adversary Sundowners here in Key West.
Just a brief tour by Jen of some pretty planes on a fine weekend here in Key West. We saw tons more flying but taking photos with a camera phone in tropical sunlight is really difficult! I have tons (had, I deleted many, many photos!) of contrails and clouds. 🙂 How was your weekend?
