Books, Knit, Knitting, needles, red, Yarn

Wingspan and Calvin & Hobbes, making the New Year bright and cheerful! I picked up this yarn while away for the holidays. I’d had my eye on the pattern for nearly a year now and it is a delight to knit! Intuitive & easy once it’s set up which made it perfect airplane fodder.

One of my Resolutions just might be to read more books. I feel like I am not as much of a reader as I once was. I used to be surrounded by stacks & stacks of books. But I don’t really know what I want to read anymore! Something enthralling, of course. 🙂 So perhaps I should branch out beyond comics & cookbooks? Any recommendations?

Curled up in bare feet & cutoffs, knitting by tree light. I don’t think I am in this time zone yet.

Drink, food, Knit, Knitting

Wearing my handknits extensively now that we are visiting cold country. One might even say excessively. 😉

My sister and I stopped into a new organic cafe a friend of hers has started up recently for drinks and bowls of amazingly hearty deliciousness.

It began to snow lightly while we sipped and chatted and planned and noshed.

Afterwards we dropped into a little thrift store. I forgot how much I miss browsing cool little antique joints!

Good food, great company, fun times…

What you see here is a pile of 25 hexipuffs! And a beta. Marianna’s beta, in fact. He flares beautifully whenever the light is turned on. Isn’t he amazing? If I remember correctly he is an Orchid Beta. That is basically all the excitement I can handle right now – knitting and watching fish swim in circles. Gotta rest up for this weekend, you know – the Army Christmas Ball is coming!

Who knew it was possible to knit something inside out? That takes talent, my friends! Up next, I think I’ll try upside down. Then I can combine the two and knit something inside out & upside down. One snappy shake and that should put it all into fine, wearable form! Hey, it’s a theory…

Wanting to find those glasses I seem to have misplaced awhile ago. The ones that allow the magic inherent in life to glow warmly in your sight. Will settle for knitting a warm sweater in the interim.  String plus sticks equals garment.  Actually, that is pretty enchanting, isn’t it?

Finally, finally, it has cooled down enough to think about holding yarn again. It is just after sunset tonight and is a super pleasant 75 degrees. Windows are thrown wide open and the cricket and frogs are chirping away.

I chose to start my knitting for the season with a super long term project, the Beekeepers Quilt. It is entirely addictive! These hexapuffs are so quick and small, perfect for a warm up to bigger knitting projects and yes, I’ve plans for much more knitting in the next few months.

It feels good to pick up the needles again!

One sleeve is off. Binding it off loosely with a needle 2 sizes up was very satisfying and very fun. I know this sweater seems to be taking forever but I only knit when I truly feel like and and as a result I enjoy every single stitch so very much! Besides, there really is no rush for handknits here in Key West… Now the book I am reading is very much “off”. I really thought it might just be me, not being in a happy place of sunshine and flowers (oh wait…that IS where I live -the Land of Sunshine and Flowers) and the someone commented to the main character: “I would buy everyone of your paintings but the one with the boats.” “Oh? Why don’t you like that one?” “Too cheerful, it seems like a facade.” “Well, I’m not only gloomy, you know.” No. Actually lady, you are. And I am tired of you and your gloominess. Any recommendations for cheerful books? I desperately need them as the free bin at the library has been failing me horribly lately…
